Definition Quizzes
Most days there will be a definition quiz. This quiz will be given during the first five minutes of the class and will consist of a few questions from the
Warm Up Exercises of the section covered in the previous lesson.
You may use your notes or extra credit notebook while taking these quizzes. You may not use your book to answer quiz questions.
Since you are permitted to use notes, your answers are expected to be reasonably close to those provided in the book. For example, section 10.1 has the following questions:
- What is a percent?
- Explain how to change a percent to a decimal number.
- Explain how to change a fraction to a percent.
Reasonable answers would include
- What is a percent?
- A percent, meaning parts per hundred, is a ratio of some number to 100.
- This answer was on page 563 of the book:
-
- Explain how to change a percent to a decimal number.
- Divide the number by 100.
- Remove the percent sign.
- This answer is on page 564 of the book
-
- Explain how to change a fraction to a percent.
- Divide the numerator by the denominator to obtain a decimal number.
- Multiply the decimal number by 100.
- Add the percent sign.
- This answer is on page 563
-
Quizzes will be worth 5 points each, 1 point for you name, 2-4 points for mostly correct answers and 5 points for all answers correct. When in doubt, use answers from the book.
To prepare for these quizzes, (as well as for the homework and tests), I would type up the questions and answers from the Warm Up Exercises of each section covered.
If we do not cover part of a section, you will not be quizzed on that portion.
Quiz Score:
- There will be four tests.
- We will not have an attendance quiz on a test day.
- So there will be 14 * 3 - 3 = 39 quizes.
- Each quiz will be worth 5 points or a total of 39 * 5 = 195 points.
- These quizzes may not be made up in the case of absence, however, I will only count 150 of the 195 quiz points towards your grade.
To calculate your quiz score
- Add up all quiz points
- If the total is greater than 150, the total becomes 150
- Divide by 150
- This will give you your quiz percentage.
