80% to 89% | B |
90% to 100% | A |
I reserve the right to lower the ranges in this table if I feel that it is
appropriate. I will not raise the standards of performance.
Your grade will consist of the following components:
Daily Homework | 15% |
Definition Quizes | 5% |
Tests: | 4 @ 20% each |
Homework:
I will be using
MyMathlab to assign
homework. I will assign homework for every day in class and it will be posted
as I prepare my lecture for that day. This homework should be done within one
week of the class where the material was covered.
You should correctly solve, and understand, all homework problems assigned. If you are having problems with the homework, there are a number of resources which may assist you.
- Utilize the tools associated with MyMathlab.
- View an Example: will show you an example very similar to the problem you are currently solving
- Help Me Solve This: Will take you through the problem step by step.
- Ask questions in class!
- Come to my office hours.
- Find someone in this class and form a tutoring group.
- The university has a number of tutoring programs, check them out.
- There will be some tutoring available in the Math Department, more information on this later.
Please note, I feel that the last week of the semester is too late to begin a tutoring program. If you are having troubles get help early.
Please do your homework in a serious manner. Just looking at the problems and thinking about how you might solve them will not do. Work them out as you would on a test or quiz.
Computing your grade
Your grade is based on a weighted average. To compute this type of grade
- Find the percentage score for each category
- Multiply by the weight of each category.
In this case, tehre are three categories as outlined above.
Assume a student has
- an 80% homework average
- a 92% quiz average
- a 73% test average
The final average for the class would be
homework quiz test
0.80 x 0.15 + 0.92 x 0.05 + 0.73 x 0.8 = 0.75 or 75%
Extra credit is added directly to this score so if the student had 74% on extra credit they would add 7.4% to the final average for a class score of 87.4%.
