Presentation

The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate that you can:

• present processes and findings of analysis of large datasets.
• communicate a topic through purposeful use of presentation software.

Prepare and present a PowerPoint document describing your semester project. This presentation should be aimed at a well educated person who has little or no expertise in the field in which you are presenting. This means that your audience should understand basic statistics and can read graphs, but my not have any understanding of your data. The presentation should last 10 minutes including a time for brief questions from the audience.

The presentation should include the following:

• A project overview. This is an introduction to the question you wish to answer or the general area you are exploring. What are you going to talk about?
• An introduction to the dataset. Briefly describe the data, where it came from and the general condition of your data.
• Describe any problems with the data. What did you have to clean and how did this impact your analysis.
• Describe any discoveries you have made in your analysis. Did you answer your question? Present graphs or summary tables.
• For at least one discovery, describe how the analysis that led to this discovery was performed.
• Describe your conclusions.
• Describe future work.

In addition, if you wish you may describe any major problems encountered, new techniques used or any other interesting results not included above.

For the computer skills portion, the presentation must:

• Include at least one graph, however it is likely that it will contain many more. All graphs should be labeled, readable and understandable.
• Include a single uniform transition applied to all slides.
• Contain at least one animation.
• Conform to presentation guidelines.
  • The slides are appropriate for the audience.
  • Slide content are focused on the message to be communicated.
  • Colors are appropriate, all text is visible.
  • Slides are easy to read and understand. Text on each slide is limited.
  • Fonts, animations, special effects and graphics contribute to the message.

Your presentation should be structured to last 10 minutes, including a brief time for questions.

The presentation is due December 3 and should be submitted to the D2L folder Project Presentation. You will give your presentation in class during the final exam period. Failure to present your findings to the class will result in a 25% reduction in the score for this measurement. Failure to attend any presentation session will result in a 10% reduction in the score for this measurement.
