Weight and Temperature

• Weight is a measure of the gravitational pull on an object.
• It is related to
  • Where you are
  • And how much mass your body is made up of.
• We will pretend the two are the same.
• The basic unit of weight in the US Customary system in pounds (lb)
• but also ounces, and tons.
• 16 oz = 1 lb
• 2000lb = 1 T
• Example:

  #20, page 485.  
  Convert 20 oz to pounds.
           1 lb
  20 oz × ----- = 20/16 lb = 5/4 lb
          16 oz 
      

• The basic unit in the metric system in a gram (g)
• 1kg = 2.2 lb.
• Example

  What is the metric equivalent to a 100lb sack of grain?
            1 kg
  100 lb × ------ = 100/2.2 kg =  45.5 kg
           2.2 lb
      

• A metric tonne is equivalent to 1000 kilograms
• at sea level 1cm³ watter = 1 mL = 1 g
• Temperature
  • F = 9/5 C +32
  • C = 5/9(F-32)
  • Kelvin is another scale, where 0 -> no energy
  • K = C + 273.15
