Operations on Sets

• Introduce Venn diagrams.
• The compliment of a set A, written A' is the set of all elements in U which are not in A.
• Two sets are disjoint if they have no elements in common.
• Draw all four types of two set intersections.
• The Intersection of sets A and B, written A∩B, is the set of all elements in both A and B.
• The Union of sets A and B, written A∪B, is the set of all elements in A or in B, (or both).
• The Difference of two sets A and B, written A-B is the set of elements in A which are not in B.

• n(A∪B)= n(A) + n(B) - n(A∩B)
