Some Reflections
- Saving files
- I mentioned before the test that you should bring a usb drive to save your files.
- Saving files is problematic on OneDrive.
- There appear to be two different "one drive" icons available.
- If you use the wrong one, you will lose your files.
- I think you want to use OneDrive-Edinboro University, but I am not sure of this as we have had mixed results.
- NOT Sites-Edinboro University of PA
- Saving on the local machine
- This is problematic as you must be on the SAME machine to access the files.
- And these machines are prone to breaking
- And these machines do get updated occasionally
- And they will be cleaned when they become full.
- USB drive or google docs or personal one drive or ...
- This is probably the solution you want.
- You can get a USB drive in the $7 range at the big box store at the top of the hill.
- Getting help
- I try to make my notes available on line with a fair amount of detail.
- You should ask as step through things in class.
- You should ask when I finish class early.
- You should read these if you have problems.
- You should read the book.
- You should come to my office hours.
- You should come to my office before and between classes
- You should make a friend in class who can help you.
- Making a note in your dropbox submission that you want help is not really a useful thing.
- Following instructions
- Some instructions may seem trivial Place a next page break before each primary heading but this is required to test to see if you can do pages properly.
- Don't just skip instructions
- When should you start working on homework/project
- I have very little sympathy for "I was working the day the project was due and the computer broke."
- I have very little sympathy for "I was working on the day the project was due and I didn't understand how to ..."
- I have very little sympathy for "I was working on the day the project was due and I didn't get it done."
- I give you a week at minimum to complete homework.
- Start early
- The rule of thumb is that you should spend two hours outside of class for every hour in class.
- That is six hours a week.
- I doubt that you are spending that on homework: Work on your project
- Cheating
- From The Student Code of Conduct
- "Cheating. Behaviors including, but not limited to, use of unauthorized notes or
reference materials during examinations; copying answers from another
student's paper during an examination; the unauthorized possession of academic
materials, including exams; the unauthorized exchange of course assessment
materials, including exams; the unauthorized exchange of information or
collaboration regarding tests, or other course assignments; aiding another to
engage in cheating; and/or all other acts of academic dishonesty that any
member of this academic community would reasonably understand to be a
breach of this academic integrity statement will be considered cheating and an
act of academic dishonesty."
- Please note :"Students who are in violation of the University's academic integrity statement will be
held accountable for their actions by the faculty member and the academic department
and be subject to the imposition of discipline. Such violations can result in the student
receiving a lower grade or a failing grade for the assignment and/or the course, and/or
other academic sanctions as deemed to be appropriate by the faculty member.
".
- According to my cheating policy I have the right to do any of these.
