Homework 4: A Mini Project
The goals of this homework are:
- Demonstrate your ability to add a citation and a bibliography to a document.
- Demonstrate your ability to perform basic data manipulation in excel
- Demonstrate your ability to extract unique values from a column.
- Demonstrate your ability to create a simple circle (pie) graph.
Using the word document produced in the Getting Started on the Project notes,
- [20%] Add a sentence that discusses SuperHeroDB.com as the original source of the data.
- Add a citation to this web page in this sentence.
- I used the author as Various.
- Update the bibliography so that this citation appears.
- [20 %] Repeat the analysis of Alignment that we did in the exercise for the Gender field
- Replace the - with unknown
- Find the unique gender types.
- Count the occurrences of each.
- Build a pie graph to display the gender mixture.
- [40%] Repeat this analysis for the Race field.
- Start by replacing the - with unknown.
- Find the unique race types.
- Count the occurrences of each.
- A pie graph would not be appropriate here, draw a bar or column chart (your choice) representing the results.
- [20%] Add a description of your work to your document
- In the data dictionary section add a subsection for Gender and for Race
- Include a discussion of the two fields
- The values
- A discussion on why you decided to replace - with unknown.
- A table containing the count of each value. (This can be a screen shot for now, we will discuss tables later)
- Include a chart representing each of the fields.
- If you wish, you may attempt to create a pivot table based on Alignment and race, but this is not a requirement.
