Homework 3: Will you keep up?

Goals

The goal of this assignment is to allow you to reflect on the importance of continuous learning in the profession of computer science. An additional goal is to allow you to consider plans for maintaining currency in the field after graduation.

Formal Description

Given that the Dirty COW exploit and issues surrounding the Therac-25 both involved programmer errors, reflect on the importance of maintaining currency as an information technology professional.

Specifically address the following:

  1. How can the lack of currency lead to software errors?
  2. How has/will the industry changed
    1. historically?
    2. during your time in college?
    3. during the next five years following your graduation?
  3. How can advancements in the field lead to a lack of currency?
  4. What mechanisms do you plan to employ to maintain currency after graduation?

Answers should be in the form of one or two paragraphs. These should be well formed and all arguments should be supported.

Grading

I will use the Content Rubric and the Written Material Rubric to evaluate your document.

This assignment will be graded for content and form. Opinions will not be graded, but the ability to support opinions and arguments will be graded.

In addition, please turn in a hard copy of your paper at the beginning of class on that day.
