Data Communications and Networking, CSCI 475, Section 1
Welcome to CSCI 475, section 1, Spring 2008. In this class, we will
study the basics of data communications and computer networking.
This will include a theoretical
treatment of data transmission and encoding, an examination of networking
protocols, and a discussion of selected network applications. I will
attempt to provide practical insights into networking whenever possible.
Students will be responsible for material from the book as well as
supplemental course material introduced in class. There is room for adjustment
in the topics covered in this course, and student suggestions are welcome.
Success in this class will be enhanced by if you:
- Attend class regularly.
- Perform all assigned assignments diligently and in a timely manner.
- Read the book.
- Ask questions.
- Experiment.
I will make assignments where I expect you to use the department's
linux computers as well as the network. You may be able to perform
some of this work at home but you may not. You have been warned.
This class meets MW 5:00 to 6:15 in Doucette Hall room 216.
