Formal Description
- [5 points] Do the course Your First Hour with Unreal Engine.
In this tutorial:
- This course is the first part of the Learning Pathway Getting Started in Unreal and is reasonably good as a quick introduction to unreal.
- You should work along as you go through the tutorial, perhaps even making notes.
- In the Creating Your First Project tutorial, about 1:40, the interface has changed.
- Select Games to get to the right area.
-
- Select the type of project next (Third person as he says)
- Then you can select if you want a blueprint, c++ or other type of project.
- By the way, it is common for the interface, and even the methods of the editor to change over the years in unreal.
- In Creating your First Project tutorial, and all others probably, they have changed the interfaced discussed at 5:29. You will probably want to
- You can show the place actor tool by
- Clicking on the Window menu
- Select Place Actors
-
- Also notice that there is a Models dropdown at the top of the screen to get to the other modes.
- In Working With Content about 3:48, he wants you to use the Realistic Rendering project. This does not seem to be available, so I used Content Examples.
- I imported the small statue (SM_Statue)
- In Building Your First Level
- It appears they have changed the label you search for at 6:10, search for Sun instead of fog.
- Take and pass the quiz.
- Insert a screen shot of our achievements, with your name and this achievement showing.
- [25 points] Create a level based on the ThirdPerson Tutorial.
- Place your level in a folder FIRSTNAM_LASTNAME_LEVEL
- Include a lighting source similar to the one built in the tutorial.
- Include a plyer start.
- Include lighting
- Set a bookmark (2) that is looking down on the level so the entire level is visible.
- Please don't overdoo the assets.
- We will have to ship this back and forth via the net
- Start a new Third person game, call it FIRST_NAME_HW1
- Migrate your level to this new game.
- Zip up the entire FIRST_NAME_HW1 directory.
- Upload this zip file to the D2L folder for this assignment.
Extras
I find that I want to continue to play with simulations/visualizations of this type. Please do so, but only if you have sufficient time, do not enhance this, or any other project at the expense of your other classes.
Submission
Submit the game with your level along with your word document to the D2L Folder Homework 2 by the due date.
