Investigate the need for database professionals, including programmers and DBAs in any location you select.

This homework is worth 20 points.

Goals: When you finish this homework you should be able to:

Discuss the need for different levels of database knowledge.
Become familiar with database terms.

Assignment

Using on line job search sites, perform an informal search of the job market for database professionals. You should begin by selecting an area of the country. Perform a number of searches on a job site such monster.com, indeed.com, or careerbuilder.com. Do your best to determine the number of jobs available in this area for a Knowledge Worker, a programmer needing SQL skills and a DBA. Further investigate the different DBMS used.

Begin by naming the job market in which you conducted this search and describe how you performed this search. Include job sites used and search terms employed.
Select two positions and document:
- The Job Title
- DBMS used
- Qualifications expected.
- Knowledge required/desired.
- Other Information.
This is to be a summary and not a copy of the ads. Please make sure to define or identify any terms, products or acronyms which we have not discussed in class.
Secondly, do a survey of Microsoft Access jobs available in the area. Again, select two positions and provide documentation similar to that in the first part.
Summarize your findings in a report. This should include:
- An estimate of the number of jobs for enterprise class DBMS workers
- An "Average" salary for enterprise class DBMS jobs.
- An estimate of the number of jobs for Microsoft Access specialists.
- An "Average" salary for jobs requiring Microsoft Access specialists.
- What enterprise class databases are in demand?
Finally, describe your reaction to what you have discovered.
