Local mySql

• Jason has set up a pair of machines for our class.
• CSCI313Lin.cs.edinboro.edu is a linux machine.
• CSCI313Win.cs.edinboro.edu is a windows machine.
• Your standard CS username and password should apply
• Today we will focus on mySql.
• You will need to log into the DBMS.
• Again, I will focus on simple tools for now.
  • mysql -u username -p
  • Where username is your username.
  • -p says to ask for your password.

    [dbennett@csci313lin ~]$ mysql -u dbennett -p
    Enter password: 
    Welcome to the MySQL monitor.  Commands end with ; or \g.
    Your MySQL connection id is 80360

    I gave you the wrong password, see me for the correct password.

• mysql
  • is a sql interaction shell.
  • You can use it interactively or in batch mode.
  • There are many options, and we will be discussing some of these as the semester goes along.
• The first thing you need to do is set your password
  • mysql>use mysql; not needed.

  • Reading table information for completion of table and column names
    You can turn off this feature to get a quicker startup with -A

  • mysql>set password for 'your username'@'localhost' = PASSWORD('yourpassword');

  •  Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.02 sec)

• You can also use mySqlAdmin to access the DBMS
