Extra Credit Option

You may add up to 10 points (10%) to your final grade in this class by performing extra credit work. This work must:

Be related to a topic in computer architecture.
Be presented to the class.
Be approved in advance by the instructor.
Include written documentation.
Include a web page.

Any topic related to architecture will be acceptable for this work, but as mentioned above it must be approved by the instructor. Possible topics include

Describing a recent advance in computer architecture. (ie review an article pointed to at slashdot, or some other source of architecture information)
A report on a new technology. (ie discuss hyperthreading in the P4).
Creating a report/poster on a computer system, for example
- The ibm windows server in the lab
- The alpha cluster at Tech. and Comm.
- LeMux at PSC
Something from the book that we will not cover (chapter 9)

Credit for work will be determined by the instructor. A maximum amount will be established when the work is proposed, and an actual evaluation of credit assigned will be assessed after the work is completed.

Credit will be based on the work performed. Sloppy, incorrect or poorly presented work will receive less credit.

Students performing any work MUST submit a written description of the work, at the time it is presented in class. In the case of a slashdot article, a single page, with the student's name, and a statement of what was discussed is sufficient, for more extended projects, the scope of the written submission should be arranged with the instructor at the beginning of the project.

Classroom presentations should include a web page which can be linked into the instructor's note page for the class so that interested students may follow up on your discussion. Time for classroom presentations must be scheduled with the instructor prior to class.
