Computing Resources

• Ross 137 is available any time the building is open.
  • The door code is:
  • 1/2 of the machines are running linux.
  • 1/2 are running windows.
  • All software you need should be installed on these machines.
  • Unless we have a problem, you should be able to compile locally on the linux machines. (No need to ftp/ssh)

  • Is available on line 24/7
  • You need a ssh (putty like) and sftp (winscp like) client to connect
• You need to be able to edit, compile and run code on cslab103.cs.edinboro.edu.
• To do this, some of the following resources may be helpful:

  Text based Text Editor	vim, joe, nano and others.	Probably all available for linux/windows	nano joe vi/vim and others	This is a hard choice, but no file transfer
  GUI Text Editor	notepad++	kate bbedit	kate and others	GUI works only on the local machine, file transfer will be required
  Text based File Transfer Client	Bitvise (I have not used this)	sftp	sftp	Works well but is harder to use
  GUI based File Transfer Client	WinSCP Filezilla	Filezilla		Filezilla tends to be filled with adware and ITS would rather we do not use it.This article describes some alternatives for mac.
  Terminal Emulator	putty	terminal	terminal	Both MacOS and Linux come with terminals

• It is my understanding that Visual Studio Code
  • Runs on all three platforms
  • Will handle file transfer and compiling
  • But I have not tested this, so I don't know.
