CSCI 104 Spring 2016, Word Test, Practical Portion

For this portion of the test, we will create a paper about the Gettysburg Address. The exact appearance of the document does not have to match the example below, but all of the elements must be in place.

You may ask for help, but I may not provide that help. You may use your notes, book and my on line notes if you wish.

If you get stuck on a portion of the test, move on. Complete what you can.

All tasks should be automated whenever Word supports such automation.

There are 10 points which can be deducted for poor, sloppy, or incorrect work.

  1. Files/Folders
    1. [1 point] In your csci104 folder, create a folder called "WordTest"
    2. [1 point] Download and save a copy of this document in that folder.
    3. [1 point] Rename the document WordTest_First_Last.docx, where First is your first name and Last is your last name.
    4. [1 point] Take a screen shot showing this folder and save it as "Folders.png" in the same directory.
    5. You will insert this screen shot into your document later.
  2. Formatting
    1. [2 points] Clear all existing formatting. (Remember, there is an easy way to do this.
    2. [5 points] Apply a consistent Theme and Style to the entire document.
    3. [2 points] Add a footnote to "Other Stories" that gives the name of the theme and the style you have applied, in my case: "The theme applied is Organic and the style is Shaded"
    4. [1 point] Make the line spacing 1.5 in the entire document.
    5. [1 point] Make the entire document justified.
  3. [3 points] Cover Page
    1. Insert a cover page of your choice
    2. The title should be "Yertle the Turtle"
    3. Your name should be on this page.
    4. Today's Date Should Be on this Page
    5. No other empty fields should be on this page.
  4. Headers and Footers
    1. [2 points] Add a page number to all pages of the text in the center of the footer.
    2. [1 point] Add your name to the right hand side of the header on all pages other than the cover page.
  5. Table of Contents
    1. [1 point] Mark the following so that they appear in the table of contents.
      • Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories.
      • "Yertle the Turtle"
      • "Gertrude McFuzz"
      • "The Big Brag"
      • "Publication History"
    2. [2 points] Make a blank page between the title page and the beginning of the text for the table of contents.
    3. [1 point] Add a table of contents on the page you just created.
  6. Citations and Bib
    1. [2 points] For this report, use the Turabian reference style.
    2. [3 points] Insert a citation to "Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories", a book by Theodor S. Geisel, Published April 12, 1958 by Random House Books, New York New York.
    3. [2 points] Cite this source everywhere [1] appears.
    4. [3 points] At the end of the document, create a blank page and place an automatically generated bibliography on this page.
    5. [1 point] Make sure that the Bibliography appears in the table of contents.
  7. [2 points] Place the section "Gertrude Mcfuzz" in two column mode, in necessary break the columns so that they are nearly even.
  8. Images
  9. In the "Publication History" section, add the following table. Do not add a picture, insert a table in your document.
  10. [2 points] At the end of the text add the following in Word Art "Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss, March 2"
  11. Submission
    1. Save the final document.
    2. [5 points] Send a copy of this document to your instructor, with the subject "Word Test". The document should be submitted as an attachment.
    3. [5 points] Print a copy of this document 2 pages per sheet, use both sides mode if the printer allows.
