On page 22 of your book, there is a description of the PC Today.

(1998) Today's PC runs rings around its predecessor. You can buy a Pentium II processor with 32MB of RAM, a 4 GB hard drive, a 17-inch monitor, a high speed CD-ROM, a sound card and speakers, and an ink-jet color printer for approximately $2,000. The software is equally advanced, as Windows and Microsoft Office empower the end user in ways that were unforeseen just a decade ago.

The cd of the day was probably 24x speed, and the Pentium II processor was probably at most 500MHz.
