Basics of Word Processing
- Insertion Point - the place where text is inserted into the document.
- Move with arrows or by clicking.
- Characters are inserted before the insertion point.
- Word Wrap - continuing to the next line without pressing the carriage return (or enter key)
- Hard Return - pressing the enter key or carriage return.
- Used to mark the end of a paragraph.
- Soft Returns - are inserted by the software and are changed by
the software.
- The user must change a hard return.
- Insert mode - allows the user to insert new text
- Overwrite mode - overwrites current text with new text.
- Switch between with the insert key.
- Status flag in lower right area of screen
- Overwrite overwrites the character after the insertion point.
- Text can be deleted by pressing the
- backspace key - delete character before insertion point.
- delete key - delete character after insertion point.
