Files

• A file is an entity on perminant media/
• They usually contain some information
  • Data - data file
  • Executable - program file
  • Program - source code
• Each file must have a name
  • up to 255 characters
  • Can include spaces
• Most files have a three character extension.
  • This helps to identify the contents of the file.

Folders

• you use folders to organize files.
• I have a folder structure like:

      edinboro_classes
          csci_104
  	   sec4
  	      homework
  	      tests
  	      sylabus
  	   sec7
  	      homework
  	      tests
  	      sylabus
  	   generic
  	      notes
      kent_classes 
          architecture
  	   homework
  	   notes
      

• Proper organization is important so that you can find your data
• This is somewhat difacult to achieve
• Depth is important.
