Alternative Class Option
This option is only available to students who have completed a college level course in
- Computer programming, CSCI 130 for example.
- Statistics, STAT 260 or STAT 300 for example.
If you wish to take this option, you must meet with the instructor at the beginning of the semester.
You will be required to
- Complete all portions of the Semester Project.
- This project is expected to be in line with a project produced in a freshman level class. You may, at your option, select a more challenging problem.
- If you require the course for computer skills, you must demonstrate that you have achieved compentency in the computer skills objectives by using a spreadsheet, word processor and presentation software in this project. After demonstrating compentence, you may, at your option, use more advanced tools.
- If you have completed your computer skills requirment, you may use more advanced tools to perform your data analysis.
- This is worth 40% of your final grade.
- This is due acording to the given project deadlines.
- Pass a written examination relating Data Science
- This is worth 20% of your final grade.
- Please schedule this with the course instructor.
- Perform independant research relating to an ethical issue in data science.
- Write a summary paper describing your what you have found.
- This must contain a citations and a bibliography.
- The paper must be double spaced.
- Give a presentation of your findings.
- This must be given using presentation software
- This is worth 20% of your final grade, split equally between the two items..
- This is due November 18.
- Research professional opportunitinities in the field of data science.
- Use sorces such as the BLS and job sites.
- Write a summary paper describing your findings.
- This must contain a citations and a bibliography.
- The paper must be double spaced.
- This is worth 15% of your final grade.
- This is due November 18.
